PSM AGAIN SELECTED AS INSTRUMENT SUPPLIER FOR OFFSHORE WIND TURBINE PLATFORMS

The floating foundation is semi-submersible and anchored to the seabed. It is built entirely onshore, including the installation of the turbine, thus avoiding the use of scarce marine resources.

We were selected as the instrument supplier for the initial floating wind platform project in Portugal, which was the first offshore wind turbine in open Atlantic waters. Due to the success of this project, we were asked to supply instrumentation for the next phase which covers a total of seven wind platforms – one in Spain, two in Portugal, and four in France.

As part of our role in the project, we have supplied marine certified instrumentation including submersible switches to monitor water levels and ingress for flood detection, continuous level monitoring transmitters and pressure transmitters for various process pressures. We already have orders in place for the 3 off 8 MW platforms and expect to see the same for the 4 off 6 MW platforms as this phase of the project progresses.

These two projects will demonstrate the low risk profile and economic competitiveness of the technology, preparing the way for future commercial size floating offshore wind farms.

ANNOUNCING OUR NEWEST DIGITAL TRANSMITTER – THE APT1000

Equally suited for Marine and Industrial applications the APT1000 is the next development from the established and highly regarded APT500 4-20mA analogue transmitter. Enhanced electronics now implement fully programmable 4-20mA calibration and digital communication using the industry standard Modbus protocol to enable multi-drop connection via an RS485 network.

The APT1000 replaces the ICT1000 to provide improved performance and accuracy and a number of design enhancements:

  • Laser welded metal construction with no external exposed seals
  • Standard Stainless Steel body with Titanium and Hastelloy options
  • A fully encapsulated “leakproof” design#
  • Improved accuracy 0.1% in 4-20mA analogue mode
  • Enhanced thermal stability, fully compensated for zero temperature effect over the range of 0 to 70°C
  • Reduced body mass and weight

The APT1000 will be offered with full DNV-GL Marine Type Approval and Intrinsic Safe Certification under ATEX and IECEx regulations.

A full range of mounting components will facilitate simple application for all duties and partnered with PSM’s range of RFM termination modules the transmitter will offer cost and time savings for installation and commissioning, while the simple programmability allows rapid in-service replacement of existing transmitters.

CELEBRATING 15 YEARS OF WORKING WITH CHRISTIAN BERNER

Christian Berner supplies a wide range of environmentally sustainable technical solutions to business and public sector organisations across the Nordic countries. Over the last 15 years, we have supplied over 1,100 sensors to them, including our Tankstar 260 Series Marine Liquid Level Transmitter and our Ultrasonic 8000 Series Level Transmitter.

Our sensors have been used in water treatment plants in some of Sweden’s largest environmental projects, such as the Kappal Waste Treatment Plant at Lindingo Stockholm.

Natalia Vincic at Christian Berner said ‘We have a long standing and well-established relationship with PSM, and we don’t hesitate to recommend PSM sensors to water and wastewater plants as we know our customers find the sensors extremely reliable’.

We hope to continue working with Christian Berner for the next 15 years and beyond and be able to supply many more of our sensors to them!
